Cotswold Weekly News Update for 07/16/08

    News from the Front

Just got word about a new company called GO HERO who is making a pretty detailed Buck Rogers figure.  No, not the Gil Gerard character from the early eighties, the old school one from the late 1920's and early 30's.  Set will have a jetpack that lights up and will come packed in a wooden case.  Should have more info in the coming weeks, but until then you have this picture to drool over.

By now, some of you should have received our latest color catalog.  If not, you should receive it by weeks end.  It's loaded to the gills with new product previews, just released reviews and TONS (and I mean TONS) of specials.  This catalog cycle, we're offering a BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE for all the Gearbox figure sets.  Buy one set, and get another set of your choosing FOR FREE!!  Also, for you sci fi fans out there, we're having our SUPER STAR WARS SALE.  On 14 select sets, you can get 10% if you buy one set, 20% off if you buy two, and 30% off if you buy any three or more sets (combos must be all different items).  Be sure to check em out!

    New Products Announced

Dragon is releasing another new figure this August and, yay, he's an American.  Captain Ben Harris depicts a U.S. Armored Recon Officer within the 25th CRS (Mech) 4th Armored Division, during the Battle of the Bulge, 1944.  The set is way cool!  Ben is in his GI issue wool shirt and trousers, and is armed with his trusty Colt 45 pistol.  His noggin is protected by an all metal M1 "steelpot", complete with tanker goggles, but he still has his sunglasses to add to the "cool" factor.  Of course, the cherry on top of the banana split is the brown leather bomber jacket (with worn detailing, no less), that he's acquired in his travels.  A1 job, Dragon!

Toy Soldier debuted their new line of WWII era US M42 Paratrooper Uniforms this week.  There are three styles to choose from.  The first is the 101st Airborne set, which comes with the Screaming Eagle shoulder patch and has re-inforced elbows, knees, and pouches as well as leg tie downs.  The second is the 82nd Airborne set, with the All American shoulder patch, as well as rigger re-inforced elbows, knees, pouches and leg tie downs.  The third set is the 82nd Airborne 506th PIR set, which looks like the two previous sets, but has additional pouches on both shoulders and on the back of the jacket.  All sets come with a wool shirt and sidecap as well.

There's a newcomer to the 1:6 scale toy market and they go by the name of MiL.  Their debut item is a doozie - a SCAR Rifle Two Pack.  Up till now, most of the military gear manufacturers have been offering us just single SCAR weapons. Not MiL.  Their set has one black SCAR with ACOG sight, grenade launcher and spare mag and rounds.  If that's not enough for you, they're also including the SCAR in desert tan scheme with open sights and front foregrip and spare mag.  Both are the 5.56 mm variants (Mk16 Mod 0), so hopefully we'll be seeing the 7.62 versions (Mk17 Mod O) later down the line

Exper Toys, who earlier this year surprised the collectors with their ultra cool toolbox sets, has done a complete 360 and is releasing a modern figure set.  Their US Army Ranger Recon is clad head to toe in the ACU pattern fatigues, and is protected by black soft body armor and an ACU camo'd plate carrier, complete with various pouches. The standout piece, of course, is the remote controlled tracked robot. What's cool is that it folds up to fit into the Ranger's ACU backback and his controller fits into his leg pouch.  The set also includes an M4 Carbine and pistol (with silencer) on a Serpa-style drop down holster.

Many of you have been asking us to part out DID's new Japanese Infantryman and we listened.  In our DID/Loose Pieces section, you have your choice of the figure by itself, the rifle with stripper clips, the backpack with shelter half, the bayonet (w/scabbard & frog with entrenching tool (& cover), brown boots (w/leggings), canteen, mess kit, and shoulder bag, helmet (w/liner and cover) and service cap, and leather belt with pouches (3).  All items are on pre-order, but we should have stock available in the coming days.  Get em while you can, cuz once they're gone, they're gone!

    Other Figure News

Ignite's Weekend of Hero Exclusive Praetorian Guard is now back in stock and shipping.  Quick historical lesson - The Praetorian Guard  was a special force of guards used by Roman Emperors. Before being appropriated for the use of the Emperors' personal guards, the title was used for the guards of Roman generals.  Although similar to previous Roman soldier releases from Ignite, this set stands out in that the figure is clad in a black robe and skirt, has a black plume on his Attic style helmet, and his shield is black with gold detail.  Only 300 sets were made, so these won't be on shelves for long.

Ignite's Weekend of Heroes Exclusive Japanese Samurai Set is in stock and shipping as well.  I think this is the set that Ignite intended to release when they came out with the Swordsman figure (GII-JS060), but they realized they got the headsculpt wrong. Now corrected, they have themselves a great looking samurai warrior, complete with aggressive face and all!  Only 200 of this set were made, so these should be flyng off the shelves even faster than the Praetorian Guard.

Hot Toys' US Army Special Forces Sniper is in. The Sniper is clad head to toe in ACU Camouflage, from his uniform, all the way down to his chest rig. His backpack is fashioned after one of Eberlestock's famous models, that can hold a scoped rifle in a special pocket between the wearer and the actual pack (in addition to a TON of gear). Another standout piece in the set is the HK417 Sniper rifle - a first for Hot Toys! With all the great sets coming out from Hot Toys, die hard collectors' pocketbooks will be taking a beating.

Newline Miniatures Denim items are in stock now too.  Now you'll be able to get 1:6 scale denim jacket and jean sets as well as denim overalls.  The jacket has functioning buttons and the jeans has four opening pockets.  The same holds true for the overalls, with 7 pockets that open, adjustable suspenders, and functioning buttons on side vents. The customizing possibilities for these items is only limited by one's imagination.

Some of you may remember the company Legacy of Valor by their previous 1:6 scale releases - Rosie the Riveter and the Eleanor's Girls series.  After a long absence, they have an all new figure, and this time, it's a guy - Sgt. Alvin York to be exact.  York was one of the greatest American heroes of WWI, noted for his uncanny marksmanship and tenacity in combat - one time capturing 132 Germans and escorting them back to American lines with only his Enfield rifle and Colt .45 pistol!  In fact, York, and a restock of the female figures arrived this week and are ready for order.

Diamond Select's 3 PM Jack Bauer arrived at our warehouse late last week  Due to the huge response to Diamond Select's 8 a.m. Jack Bauer (from the hit Fox TV Series "24"), we've decided to carry the two newest releases, 3 p.m. Jack being one of them (the other is 9 p.m. Jack, available later this summer). This version of Jack is dressed in long sleeve button down shirt and bluejeans and wears a black parka-like jacket. The set comes with a myriad of accessories.

Dragon's Rick Hamilton is in.  Rick depicts a US Marine M240 Gunner.  The twist with Rick is that you can choose two different versions on him - one with the regular MARPAT (Marine Pattern) camouflage fatigues, and the other with desert MARPAT camoflage fatigues.  This is a pretty interesting concept that I hope Dragon continues with future sets. The desert version is already pre-sold out, but we have a handful left of the woodland version.
