Myrmillo Blue Gladiator Shield (Scutum)

The Myrmillo was a class of gladiator during the Roman Imperial age. The distinguishing feature of this gladiator was the high crest of his helmet which, together with its broad rim, was shaped somewhat like a fish. Otherwise, he wore a loincloth (subligaculum), belt (balteus), a short greave on the left leg, a linen manica to protect his right arm, and the curved rectangular shield (scutum) of the Roman legionary.

The scutum was a large oblong shield held on the left arm with a handle. It was used by the Roman infantry as well as the Myrmillo style of Gladiator. It was curved to fit around the body and was about 4 feet long by two and a half feet wide.

Our rendition of the Myrmillo scutum is hand made entirely out of metal, and hand painted with a decoration common to the gladiator shield images of that period. It's edges are finished with brass. Overall dimensions:  6.25 inches (16 cm) x 4 inches (10 cm).
